The Santa Fe Trail Board of Cooperative Education Services' (SFTBOCES) Southeast Alternative Learning Academy (SEAL Academy) program provides a structured, therapeutic and educational environment for students in preschool through secondary level of education. The program is designed to assist students who are experiencing academic difficulty due to emotional and behavioral problems.
The SEAL program is a unique treatment model for students, preschool through secondary level education, who are experiencing emotional, family and behavioral difficulties and are unable to focus while in a traditional school setting. The purpose of this program is to address these problems using a variety of treatment methods such as individual, group, and family therapies. The model provides a comprehensive and structured environment as an alternative to placement in a more restrictive setting. This approach enables the treatment team to deliver intensive therapy and education while maintaining the student in their current living environment.
In addition to treatment, students will receive academic instruction in accordance with ability level, utilizing appropriate educational materials and are taught by certified teachers. Students, thereby, maintain a pace similar to their peers while they receive therapeutic services. Utilizing qualified teaching staff and level of ability, appropriate curriculum will ease the transition back into the traditional school setting enhancing the opportunities for success for students and teachers. The educational and therapeutic components are carefully orchestrated allowing both services to operate in a harmonious manner. The Southeast Alternative Learning Academy will place great importance on keeping students in a familiar environment allowing for more educational therapeutic growth that are otherwise impossible in the regular classroom.
