Autism

The Autism Team is specially trained team of SFTBOCES professionals in the area of autism. Every child or student diagnosed with autism has a member from the team assigned as his / her case manager. A case manager provides consultation and direct services to the team of professionals involved with the child / student.

Child Find

Child Find locates, identifies, and evaluates all children who may have special needs; includes birth through age 21. 

Screenings
SFTBOCES along with your local school district will be conducting free screenings throughout the year for children from birth through 5 years of age. Fun interactive activities facilitate the screening of your child's hearing, vision, speech, language, education, motor development, and social / emotional skills.

Gifted & Talented

SFTBOCES serves as the flow through agent for its seven member districts' gifted & talented (GT) funds. SFTBOCES also provides leadership and technical assistance in the areas of GT identification, programming, and services. A SFTBOCES GT professional learning community meets on a regular basis to collaborate on issues related to GT students and their needs, as well as researching ways to better support teachers of GT students. The SFTBOCES GT professional learning community consists of representatives from each district.

The SFTBOCES Hearing Team provides services to children with hearing loss. The team collaborates with the student and teacher to ensure a successful understanding of classroom instruction.

Motor Therapy

Motor therapy services support academic achievement and social participation within all school routines including the classroom, cafeteria, and recess time. The SFTBOCES Motor Therapy Team is divided into Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. Both provide evaluation goal-oriented plan development, implementation of various interventions, and on-going assessment and monitoring of progress for students from birth to age 21. The Physical Therapist will address gross motor skills, the need for postural adaptations, and mobility concerns. The Occupational Therapist will address fine motor, sensory motor, and activities of daily living (ADLs). Both consider developmental milestones, medical diagnosis, student and staff safety, and the need for adaptive equipment.

School Psychology

The Santa Fe Trail BOCES school psychology department collaborates closely with students, parent/guardians, administration, teachers, paraprofessionals, and agencies, to develop effective strategies that support and promote a healthy learning environment. School Psychologist will function in accordance with the current mandated Rules and Regulations for the administration of Handicapped Children’s Education Act and the State of Colorado guidelines.

Services may include:
  • School Psychologist evaluates students referred as potential candidates for a Special Education Program.  Tests may include intelligence, achievement, personality, and perceptual motor test.
  • School Psychologist attends special education staffings to assist in the development of an Individual Education Program that will support qualifying students with academic, intellectual, medical, social/emotional and behavioral disabilities.
  • School Psychologist may provide access skills training to students and school staff members.
  • School Psychologist may consult with teachers in regards to the general classroom management of children with learning and/or behavior problems.
  • School Psychologist may provide in-service education for teachers and administrators when requested.
  • School Psychologist may provide short term counseling to students with social, emotional or behavioral concerns.
  • School Psychologist is a member of the school district’s Problem Solving Teams (Response to Intervention, RtI). This multi-tier approach is utilized for early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. 
  • School Psychologist will conduct Functional Behavior Assessments to identify the function of a student’s behavior to incorporate a variety of techniques and strategies when developing effective Behavior Intervention Plan.

Speech Therapy

The Santa Fe Trail BOCES speech/language pathologists observe, screen and evaluate children from Birth to age 21 as requested. The Speech/Language Team (SLPs, SLPAs, paraprofessionals) provide services through short term Response to Intervention (RtI), consultation to classroom teachers/families and/or weekly therapy sessions through an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for more extended periods of time. Therapy is provided in the areas of articulation/phonology, receptive and expressive language, voice, fluency and functional/social communication.  Feeding/swallowing issues are addressed as needed. Augmentative/alternative/multimodal communication therapy is provided through training in the use of sign language, picture communication or assistive devices if warranted.

Transition

The Santa Fe Trail BOCES Transition Department collaborates closely with students, parents/guardians, counselors, teachers, paraprofessionals, and agencies, to develop effective activities that support and promote transition success. Transition services assist students, ages 15 to 21 years, as they progress within the school setting to adult life.

Transition services may include: 
  • Assessments to document student’s strengths and interests 
  • Exploration of career and post-secondary options
  • Job readiness skills
  • Community agency awareness
  • Assistance with agency applications
  • Life skills instruction

The goal of the Santa Fe Trail BOCES Transition Department is to support students so they experience a successful transition from high school to adult life.
